Peppermint and Cedarwood Sidewalk Paint

Whether its hopscotch or a driveway mural, sidewalk paint is just plain fun—and making your own is even easier than you could imagine. It only takes a few ingredients and is totally naturally sourced, making it a great nonsynthetic alternative to other forms of sidewalk colors. Adding essential oils makes the experience even more interactive, offering a cooling, calming aroma to your children as they tap into their creativity during the day.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cornstarch

  • 3 cups water

  • 6 drops natural food coloring (can be found online or at some supermarkets)

  • 6 drops Peppermint essential oil

  • 6 drops Cedarwood essential oil

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornstarch and water.

  2. Divide mixture into six small bowls (about ½ cup of mixture in each).

  3. Add one drop of different natural food colorings to each individual bowl, stirring to combine. Depending on your preference, add additional drops of coloring to get the hue you want!

  4. Add one drop each Peppermint and Cedarwood to every bowl. Stir to combine.

Once you’ve made your paint, you are ready to go! Grab a few large paint brushes and make the concrete your canvas. We know there are plenty of Monets and Picassos out there—snap a photo and share your little ones’ creations with your friends, then tag us on Instagram (@oiltreesisters). We would love to see their art!
